Frank Hartl, Barrington IL, an original Meadowdale racer, brought his backhoe tractor. It was very welcome when those big trees needed planting!
Donna Redmer (center with crutch), event chair and steward for the southwest portion of Raceway Woods, registers and directs volunteers to their projects. (Donna had hip replace-ment surgery on the 25th. And your excuse for not being here was...?)
Guys with shovels in their hands rolled their eyes and started searching for rakes when this trailerful of trees came rolling in! Happily, Donna Redmer had arranged for professional help to plant some of them down near the silo.

Large crowd turns out for last work day before 50th Reunion & Festival, August 30, 2008
Fantastic weather greeted about fifty volunteers at the second 2008 worday. Barely-break-a-sweat temperatures were accompanied by regular cooling breezes. Volunteers circulated with cool water and fruit.
We had two main jobs- to plant six or seven larger trees around the silo and at other places on the grounds, and to re-mulch a lot of trail that had not gotten much work lately. Happily, professional help had been recruited to handle the large trees destined for the silo area.
The balance between mulch carriers, guys with 4x4s or tractors with trailers, and those of us raking out the mulch was very well calculated. A whole lot of trail is now ready for festival goers. And we got out of there by noon!
A Big Thank You to all who participated.
