A bunch of us were up at the old track Friday, setting up tents and tables, assembling trash receptacles, and parking a few early arrivals. The rain was hit and miss, with an unpromising forecast for Saturday, but a decent outlook for Sunday. But Friday night the forecast turned on us and Saturday morning we awoke to hard rain, with the forecast for two more days of the same.
The main straight, where we had intended to show the cars, was ankle deep in places. All the non-paved paths we had planned to use as driveways were gumbo, seeking to trap unwary vehicles. We reluctantly agreed that the weekend had to be cancelled.
Cell phone company stock should jump just from all the calls that were made to the the park owners, the vendors and the insurance company to see if the event could be postponed. Next week, September 20-21, conflicts with a big vintage race at Road America, so that was not seen as a choice.
The committee decided to set the "rain date" as Saturday, September 27 (one day only). It is hoped that the registrants for this weekend will be able to attend on the new date.
We sincerely apologise to those who planned to come out today and Sunday, and particularly those who actually showed up at the track, ready to participate.

9-14-08: It was announced that on Saturday, O'Hare Airport received the largest single day's rainfall, 7.11", since records have been kept. We sure know how to pick 'em! Today's forecast is for more of the same, with the possibility of lighter rain late in the afternoon. Let's hope for better weather for the rain date, Saturday, September 27.
