MIR SILO GETS SIX
MONTH REPRIEVE!

The word on the street in Carpentersville is that the Forest Preserve District will be extending its date for the demolition of the Pure Oil silo at Meadowdale International Raceway for six months. This is due entirely to your e-mails and a groundswell of public opinion within the Fox Valley community.  Thank you.

Now our real work begins. The Forest Preserve District, understandably, does not have any particular interest in cleaning up the silo.  A group of us Meadowdale enthusiasts has taken it upon ourselves to raise the money to do the work needed on the silo.

Happily, the engineers have indicated that the rugged old structure does not need that much work.  There are some cracks that should be tuckpointed.  It would be good to seal up the "door" at the base and "windows" up the side of the silo.  And then a coat of paint and reapplication of the Pure Oil logo and Meadowdale Raceways lettering would do the job.  Restoration of the roof would be a want rather than a need.

We are exploring the costs involved and sources for the money to do the job.  The brush and trees that have sprouted up around the silo since the track closed are almost all invasive "junk" and should be removed so that the silo may again stand tall and free as the sentinel for Meadowdale International Raceways.

What was, and shall be.
Minus the race cars, unfortunately.
Let's get to work!
