5-6-08 The website recently received this note from Donna Redmer. Donna and her husband Jack are volunteer stewards for the southwestern part of Raceway Woods, former home of Meadowdale Raceway.
This message could be titled “Some Young People You Should Know”. On Sunday when Jack and I were walking the Raceway track we happened upon 6 young people about 18-19 years old sitting in a circle on the track just talking. Of course we stopped and chatted about what they liked about the Raceway, where they were from and what schools they attended.
Jack asked if they had been down by the tunnel….a place where kids are known to hang out and paint graffiti on the walls. They didn’t seem to know of it so Jack described the terrible words and slogans painted on the wall and challenged them to get involved and paint over the graffiti. Well, here’s what happened next.
Two of the girls named Joanna and Melissa came back with spray paint cans they had purchased themselves and began to cover the graffiti. Well, there was an awful lot …all sides and the ceiling. They ran out of paint, went back to the paint store and purchased buckets of “mistake” paint at the store for a discount and returned to the tunnel and painted over all surfaces…all on their own…all with their own money.
We think they are exceptional young people and deserve recognition. We do not even know their last names.
Donna
Thanks, Joanna and Melissa. Above is a photo of the tunnel before you took it upon yourselves to clean it up. We'll post a photo of your good works as soon as we get up there to take one, probably at the next Meadowdale work day, May 23. Thank you again!
